Hospice of Michigan to Provide Virtual Grief Support Groups this Winter

All sessions are open and available for anyone mourning the loss of a loved one

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Jan. 10, 2022) – Hospice of Michigan (HOM) is continuing its virtual support group sessions throughout the winter for Michiganders experiencing the loss of a loved one.

The ongoing sessions are highlighted by the Living On group series, where the focus is to express feelings and experiences related to the loss of a loved one in a supportive, caring, and non-judgmental environment. Grief and loss topics are addressed as they arise, depending on the interests of those attending the group.

The following grief support events are scheduled to take place:

Virtual Groups (Zoom)

  • 1st Tuesday of the month | 6-7 p.m.
  • 2nd Tuesday of the month | 6:30-7:30 p.m.
  • 2nd Wednesday of the month | 1-2:30 p.m.
  • 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month | 1:30-2:30 p.m.
  • 1st Friday of the month | 10:30-11:30 a.m.

Living On – Young Adults

An open, ongoing group for people in their 20s and 30s facilitated by Arbor Hospice and Hospice of Michigan grief counselors.

  • 1st Monday of the month | 6-7:15 p.m.

Living On – Loss from COVID

A monthly support group for people who have experienced the death of a loved one from COVID. These groups are facilitated by Arbor Hospice and Hospice of Michigan grief counselors.

  • 3rd Wednesday of the month | 6-7:15 p.m.

Living On – Loss of Spouse or Partner

Come and share, or simply listen, as we discuss the various intricacies and many facets of grief after the loss of a spouse/partner.

  • 4th Tuesday of the month | 6-7:15 p.m.
  • 2nd & 4th Thursday of the month | 2-3:30 p.m.

Living On – Adult Loss of Parent

An open, ongoing, bi-monthly group for people who have lost a parent.

  • 4th Tuesday & 2nd Wednesday of the month | 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Living On – Loss of Adult Child

An open, ongoing group for people who have lost an adult child.

  • 2nd Thursday of the month | 10:30-11:45 a.m.

 

Seminar-Grief 101

This educational meeting provides important resources and information for those coping with the loss of a loved one. Grief 101 explores what is normal during the grief process, strategies for coping, suggestions for self-care and available community support. Registration is required.

Loss of Spouse/Partner with Ron Gries, Author of “Through Death to Life”

Hear Ron’s authentic and hopeful story of living through his wife’s illness and death, and of his grieving and healing. Ron will share excerpts of his book and discuss how writing helped him on his journey. Attend in-person or via Zoom. A light lunch will be provided for those in-person, Zoom participants are welcome to bring their own for the event. Registration is required.

  • Wednesday, Feb. 9 | 12-1 p.m.

Seminar-Mindfulness and Grief

In this two-session seminar, which is offered via Zoom and in-person, attendees will learn about basic mindfulness techniques and how they can be utilized as effective wellness and coping tools while on the grief journey. Each session will include time to practice the techniques as a group, and for processing and sharing. Please plan to attend both sessions. Registration is required.

Seminar-Journey Through Grief

This series of weekly sessions offers insights and coping skills for an adult’s journey through grief. Practical handouts are provided with each session.

  • Every Thursday (starting March 31 through April 28) | 6-7:15 p.m.

Men Overcoming Loss Groups

These online support groups are designed for men who are dealing with the death of a loved one. Join virtually from your computer or mobile device.

 

Men Overcoming Loss: General

Designed for men grieving any type of loss.

  • 1st Tuesday of the month (starting Feb. 1) | 6-7:30 p.m.

Men Overcoming Loss: Grieving Dads

  • 1st Wednesday of the month | 6-7:30 p.m.

Men Overcoming Loss: Partner/Spouse

  • 3rd Tuesday of the month | 6-7:30 p.m.

Grief After Dementia

In partnership with Alzheimer’s Association Michigan Chapter, this group is for anyone who has lost someone to Alzheimer’s Disease or other type of dementia.

  • 2nd Tuesday of the month | 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Grief is Love Lost

Short audio sessions to help you navigate your grief journey. Hosted by Dr. John Canine and Eli Zaret.

  • Grief isn’t curable. But over time and with productive attention to our grief, we learn to manage it, and acquire the strength, vigilance and courage to embrace a goal of hope and happiness.
  • Grief is Love Lost is a caring companion to Hospice of Michigan’s Grief Journey Program. These short audio sessions can be helpful before, during and after the loss of a loved one.
